Photo Competition Rules
- Photography Competition Guidelines:
- Submission must depict a landscape or seascape during either sunrise or sunset.
- The photograph should evoke a sense of upliftment.
- Images must not include human subjects, allowing the viewer to envision themselves within the scene.
- The location featured must be specifically identified within the Margaret River Region.
- Submissions are required to incorporate a shade of mauve, ranging from light mauve to deep indigo.
- Eligibility:
- Be a resident of the Margaret River Region.
- Be over the age of 13 years.
- Submission Guidelines:
- One high-resolution JPG (JPEG) file is to be submitted; other formats will not be accepted.
- File size must be between 2MB and 15MB, with a resolution of 300dpi and A4 size.
- Images must be captured using a single exposure camera, which includes point-and-click, compact, mirrorless, tablet, or smartphone cameras.
- The image filename should include the photographer’s name, date, and location.
- Image manipulation is restricted to minimal adjustments.
- Watermarks, identifying signatures, or markings are prohibited.
- Image submissions must be the entrant’s own original photographic work, having undergone editing and completion independently, without external assistance or the use of generative artificial intelligence.
- Submitted images must not have been previously published or received awards in any other competition.
- Copyright and Permissions:
- Entrants must hold exclusive rights to the submitted image.
- Submitted images will be utilised for promotional purposes in the 2025/26 Directory.
- The Rotary Directory retains the authority to request image metadata to verify compliance with submission requirements.
- Submission Deadline and Online Portal:
- All submissions must be received no later than 14 July 2025.

- Judging Criteria:
- Submissions must adhere to the stipulated deadline date.
- Entries must demonstrate compliance with the established theme and guidelines.
- Relevance to the designated theme is mandatory.
- Composition and originality will be evaluated.
- Technical quality will be assessed.
- Entrant details must be accurate and verifiable.
- Entries failing to comply with the outlined criteria will be rejected during the initial vetting process.
- Judging Procedure:
- A panel comprising three judges will evaluate the submissions.
- The evaluation process shall proceed as follows:
- Removal of submissions that do not conform to the established guidelines.
- Selection of a preliminary list of qualifying photographs.
- Refinement of the preliminary list to create a shortlist.
- Determination of the winning entry.
- Disqualification Clause: The judging panel retains the prerogative to disqualify any entries deemed unsuitable.
- Prizes for the Winning Entry:
- The selected winning photograph shall be prominently displayed on the 8,000 front covers of the 2025/26 Rotary Directory Book.
- The location of the image and the identity of the winner will be acknowledged on the front cover and within the Directory Online platform.
- A feature article, including the photograph and an interview with the winner, will be published within the 2025/26 Rotary Directory Book.
- Winning Entry Announcement:
- The winning entry shall be announced in the newspaper, on Radio Margaret River, and via social media channels.
