Photo Competition Rules

  1. Photography Competition Guidelines:
    1. Submission must depict a landscape or seascape during either sunrise or sunset.
    2. The photograph should evoke a sense of upliftment.
    3. Images must not include human subjects, allowing the viewer to envision themselves within the scene.
    4. The location featured must be specifically identified within the Margaret River Region.
    5. Submissions are required to incorporate a shade of mauve, ranging from light mauve to deep indigo.
  2. Eligibility:
    1. Be a resident of the Margaret River Region.
    2. Be over the age of 13 years.
  3. Submission Guidelines:
    1. One high-resolution JPG (JPEG) file is to be submitted; other formats will not be accepted.
    2. File size must be between 2MB and 15MB, with a resolution of 300dpi and A4 size.
    3. Images must be captured using a single exposure camera, which includes point-and-click, compact, mirrorless, tablet, or smartphone cameras.
    4. The image filename should include the photographer’s name, date, and location.
    5. Image manipulation is restricted to minimal adjustments.
    6. Watermarks, identifying signatures, or markings are prohibited.
    7. Image submissions must be the entrant’s own original photographic work, having undergone editing and completion independently, without external assistance or the use of generative artificial intelligence.
    8. Submitted images must not have been previously published or received awards in any other competition.
  4. Copyright and Permissions:
    1. Entrants must hold exclusive rights to the submitted image.
    2. Submitted images will be utilised for promotional purposes in the 2025/26 Directory.
    3. The Rotary Directory retains the authority to request image metadata to verify compliance with submission requirements.
  5. Submission Deadline and Online Portal:
    1. All submissions must be received no later than 14 July 2025.
    2. Submissions may be uploaded via the following web address: https://margaretriverdirectory.com.au/photo-comp
  6. Judging Criteria:
    1. Submissions must adhere to the stipulated deadline date.
    2. Entries must demonstrate compliance with the established theme and guidelines.
    3. Relevance to the designated theme is mandatory.
    4. Composition and originality will be evaluated.
    5. Technical quality will be assessed.
    6. Entrant details must be accurate and verifiable.
    7. Entries failing to comply with the outlined criteria will be rejected during the initial vetting process.
  7. Judging Procedure:
    1. A panel comprising three judges will evaluate the submissions.
    2. The evaluation process shall proceed as follows:
      1. Removal of submissions that do not conform to the established guidelines.
      2. Selection of a preliminary list of qualifying photographs.
      3. Refinement of the preliminary list to create a shortlist.
      4. Determination of the winning entry.
    3. Disqualification Clause: The judging panel retains the prerogative to disqualify any entries deemed unsuitable.
  8. Prizes for the Winning Entry:
    1. The selected winning photograph shall be prominently displayed on the 8,000 front covers of the 2025/26 Rotary Directory Book.
    2. The location of the image and the identity of the winner will be acknowledged on the front cover and within the Directory Online platform.
    3. A feature article, including the photograph and an interview with the winner, will be published within the 2025/26 Rotary Directory Book.
  9. Winning Entry Announcement:
    1. The winning entry shall be announced in the newspaper, on Radio Margaret River, and via social media channels.
